My review:

Tenley isn’t your average spoiled rich girl, much to her parents dismay. She just has to have her own mind and make her own choices. Her mother is a famous artist, known the world over, her father a respected senator and they need her to sign with myriad (like they did) to maintain their status quo in their Secondlife…  if she signs up with Troika, they lose.

Everything.

The status, the jobs, fancy cars and lavish lifestyle are all gone in an instant. At 16, she is finally old enough to make her commitment and the pressure is on.

When she refuses to give in and commit to the realm, they throw her into Prynne (a prison of sorts created to force children to their parents ideals) to teach her a lesson and break her down.

There she meets Archer and eventually Killian, the two main men of mystery. They are of course breathtakingly handsome, bitter enemies, and each of them are determined to sway her to their side.

This book was so different in its concept of the world, that I really really wanted to like it so much more than I was able to. I loved the fact that Ten was obsessed with numbers(very 23ish.. you know the movie with Jim Carey, but I wish that the book had strayed a little farther away from the torn between two hot guys plot but I still couldn’t put it down without find out what happens next, 200 pages later I was ready to reach into the book and kill Ten myself.

I think this book was rushed or poorly planned (I’m not sure which) and as a fan of Gena Showalter ( I LOOOVED the zombie Alice books) I hope that the sequel Lifeblood will make up for the FirstLife.

Description:

Tenley “Ten” Lockwood is an average seventeen-year-old girl…who has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers, but her refusal to let her parents choose where she’ll live—after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, longtime enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon, Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between the two realms who will do anything to win the right to her soul. Who can she trust? And what if the realm she’s drawn to isn’t where the boy she’s falling for lives? She just has to stay alive long enough to make a decision…
